EPDA Statement on Ukraine
Please see below the message sent to the International Red Cross . The PAI is a member of the EPDA and I Paula Gilmore CEO of the Parkinson’s Association am a director on the board of the EPDA.
Hello Everyone – on behalf of the EPDA board, please be advised that the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) have been contacted today with the following message:
Due to the current conflict in Ukraine, there are grave concerns in our community that people with Parkinson’s in Ukraine may not be able to access medications that enable them to function everyday. It is of major importance that people with Parkinson’s take their medication daily at regular intervals otherwise they will struggle to move, walk, talk and eat.
Can we, the European Parkinson’s Disease Association (EPDA), please ask that the ICRC tries to help with the provision of Parkinson’s medication not only at the Ukraine borders between Poland, Hungary, Moldova, Romania and Slovakia but also in Ukraine itself. We are writing directly to our contacts in the treatment industry who manufacture Parkinson’s medications to see if they too can help with the delivery of necessary supplies.
Thank you for all that you are doing for the Ukraine population. If you need any more information, support or insights concerning Parkinson’s, please do contact us, we’re here to help.
We are in the process of contacting all the treatment industry partners to see if they can help with the delivery of necessary supplies using the statement above, and also a message will be added to our website about our support for the Ukraine population and in particular people with Parkinson’s and their families.
