A Major Step Forward for Parkinson’s Ireland: Expanding Mental Health Support

Parkinson’s Ireland is delighted to announce a significant development in our ongoing commitment to supporting the Parkinson’s community — the creation of a new Counselling Psychologist role.

This marks an important milestone for our organisation as we work to meet the growing need for accessible, professional mental health support for people living with Parkinson’s and their care partners. Mental health challenges such as depression and anxiety are common within the community, and this new service will ensure that those affected have direct access to compassionate, expert psychological care.

Modelled on the success of our Parkinson’s Nurse Specialist and Dietitian Helpline, the Counselling Psychologist will establish and deliver a dedicated tele-counselling service. The role will also include educational outreach — offering talks, workshops, and classes focused on psychological wellness and resilience.

We believe this service will make a lasting difference, helping individuals and families navigate the emotional and psychological aspects of Parkinson’s with greater support and understanding.
