Tax Relief Now Available for the Common Conditions Service
You can now claim tax relief on the cost of a pharmacist consultation under the Common Conditions Service and on any medication prescribed by the pharmacist as part of the service. The relief is available at the standard 20% rate, bringing these costs into line with the tax relief already available for GP consultations and medicines prescribed by a GP.
The Common Conditions Service allows participating pharmacists to assess and treat eight common conditions without the need for a GP appointment in many cases. These conditions are:
- Allergic rhinitis (hay fever and similar allergies)
- Cold sores
- Conjunctivitis (red eye)
- Impetigo
- Oral thrush
- Shingles
- Uncomplicated urinary tract infections (cystitis)
- Vaginal thrush
This service provides faster access to treatment for common illnesses while helping to keep GP appointments available for people with more complex healthcare needs. If you or a family member develops one of these conditions, it may be worth checking with your local pharmacy before arranging a GP visit.
Remember to keep receipts for pharmacist consultations and any medicines prescribed through the Common Conditions Service, as these expenses qualify for tax relief. For many people, this offers a simple way to reduce the cost of accessing healthcare.
