Parkinson’s Ireland Invites Proposals for Major Research Funding Scheme

We are delighted to be inviting research proposals for the Health Research Charities/Health Research Board Joint Funding Scheme (HRCI/HRB Joint Funding Scheme).

Closing date for submission of Expression of Interest (EOI) applications: 5th September 2025 at 5pm

The application for expressions of interest can be downloaded here or at the end of this page. All emails received will be acknowledged. Completed applications should be submitted to lisa@parkinsons.ie

Budget and project duration: The minimum duration is 12 months and the maximum is 36 months. The maximum total budget for the project is €200,000, (this includes both the PI & HRB contribution).

For the current round, we are inviting applications that address the following topics:

1. Mental Health & Parkinson’s disease

2. Public Awareness of Parkinson’s disease

3. Role of A.I / Telemedicine in Parkinsons’s disease

4. Role of Gut Microbiome in Parkinson’s disease

5. Psychosocial aspects of Parkinson’s disease (to include, cognitive/ behavioural effects, employment/ education/ quality of life etc.)

6. Lifestyle behaviour in Parkinson’s (to include exercise, sleep)

These research priorities have been decided upon in consultation with PI members and service users and reflect the priorities of participants who completed our ongoing research priorities survey.

The closing date for Expressions of Interest (EOIs) is the 5th September 2025 at 5pm. EOIs will be reviewed by the Parkinson’s Ireland Research and Impact sub-Committee (Date TBC) and shortlisted projects will be invited to make a full application to the HRB via the GEMS platform before the closing date of 26th November 2025.
