Meds on Time, Every Time- Parkinson’s Awareness Month 2026

For people living with Parkinson’s, timing is everything.

This Parkinson’s Awareness Month, Parkinson’s Ireland is proud to launch our campaign, “Meds on Time, Every Time”, shining a light on one of the most important, yet often overlooked, aspects of managing Parkinson’s, taking medication exactly as prescribed, at the right time, every time.

Why timing matters

Parkinson’s medications are carefully prescribed to help manage symptoms such as tremor, stiffness and slowness of movement. When taken consistently and on schedule, they can help people maintain greater control over their symptoms and support a better quality of life.

However, if medication is delayed, missed or taken at irregular times, it may worsen symptoms and reduce overall symptom control. For many people, even a short delay can make a noticeable difference.

Quite simply, medication timing is not just a routine, it is a vital part of treatment.

The reality of daily life

Maintaining a strict medication schedule is not always easy. Daily life can be unpredictable, and factors such as busy routines, appointments, travel or hospital stays can disrupt even the best intentions.

For people with Parkinson’s, this can be especially challenging. It may require careful planning, reminders and support from family members, care partners and healthcare professionals.

That is why awareness is so important. Understanding the importance of medication timing can help ensure that people living with Parkinson’s receive the support they need, whether at home, in the workplace or in healthcare settings.

Lived experiences from our ambassadors

As part of this campaign, we are sharing a series of seven videos featuring our ambassadors, people living with Parkinson’s who understand first hand the impact of medication timing.  These videos will be released on our social medias across the month of April.

In these videos, they speak openly about their own experiences, the challenges they face in maintaining a routine and the difference it makes when their medication is taken on time.

They also highlight the practical strategies they use, from setting alarms to planning their day around medication times, and the importance of advocating for their needs, especially in hospital or care settings.

Their voices are at the heart of this campaign, reminding us that behind every prescription is a person navigating daily life with Parkinson’s.

A shared responsibility

“Meds on Time, Every Time” is not only a message for people living with Parkinson’s. It is a call to action for everyone.

Healthcare professionals, caregivers, family members and the wider community all have a role to play in supporting timely medication. This includes recognising the urgency of Parkinson’s medication schedules and ensuring they are respected in all settings.

Simple actions, such as asking about medication times, helping to maintain routines or ensuring timely administration in hospital, can make a significant difference.

Supporting better outcomes

By prioritising medication timing, we can help people living with Parkinson’s to:

  • Maintain greater independence
  • Reduce fluctuations in symptoms
  • Improve overall wellbeing
  • Feel more in control of their daily lives

This campaign is about empowering people with Parkinson’s, raising awareness and encouraging practical support that leads to better outcomes.
