Invitation To Weekly Topics On Issues Associated In Parkinson’s Disease

Dear members,

You are invited to attend weekly topic sessions concerning the most prevalent of issues associated with Parkinson’s Disease. Whether you have Parkinson’s or closely related to somebody with the condition then you might find these sessions beneficial. We aim to present information, discuss together the topic and present very practical strategies to support you as you deal and work with Parkinsons.in your life.

The first topic is Diagnoses. How many of you were left in shock and maybe still are in shock from hearing that you or a loved one has Parkinson’s? I remember somebody telling me one time, that when they received the diagnosis, they immediately saw themselves as Muhammad Ali. They thought their life was over, and to this day the person cannot remember how they got home. Depending on how a diagnoses is delivered can negatively impact one’s acceptance and ability to work with the PD condition. How negatively have you been impacted and could that impact be adding to your symptoms now? If so, what can you do about it?
Over the weeks we will put the following issues as topics under the microscope Anxiety, can be debilitating and crippling, but it can be lessened. Then there is low mood, lack of concentration, feelings of apathy, grief and hallucinations. Other areas of interest will present a way of dealing with cognitive decline and memory impairment, addictive compulsive behaviours and last but not least hypersexuality

Not of all of the above may be an issue for you, but one or two might be, so you are very welcome to come along and share or listen and learn. There might be topics left out that is near and dear to you. Please let us know so that we can maximise our efforts and delivery to your needs.

The presenter is Dee Daly a Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapist, she is also a lecturer in Educational Psychology. Dee has worked with the emotional issues associated with Parkinson’s for well over fifteen years now; she has contributed to awareness campaigns, to highlight the need for key resources that are hugely needed to support individuals with the condition.
