Cork Branch Local Glounthaune Group

The local Glounthaune group was established in April of 2023.

We met the first Thursday of every month at 11.15am in the Glounthaune Village Community Centre. When we first met up, there was six of us and some months now we can have up to twenty plus. Currently we meet on a Wednesday.

We use our time together to share ideas, information and ‘be there for one another’ whilst enjoying a cuppa.

During the last few months we have had some visitors attend our group with information and research etc. Some of these are listed below;

Padraig Cronin who is a Graduate entry Medicine who visited us twice to help develop his understanding of Gait Freeze and Parkinson’s Disease in general.

The results were quite significant in demonstrating the correlation between Gait Freeze and Quality of Life.

We also had a visit from Aine Rose Connell of Teleatherapy regarding speech and language therapy which was of interest to some of the group

We were very lucky to have had the opportunity to avail of a series of classes led by a physiotherapist who specialises in neurology and is trained in PD warriors. It is running for eight weeks and incorporates balance strength cardiovascular exercise including pd warrior and Lee Silverman exercises.

Over 22 of the group met up on Friday 8th December in the usual place and everyone brought a plate – savory /sweet and we spent a few hours chatting over t&c and plenty of goodies.

More to come for 2024. For more information, please contact Jackie:
