On bank holiday Monday, the 6th of June, women from all over Ireland will take to the streets of Dublin to walk, jog and run for their chosen charity in this year’s Flora Women’s Mini Marathon.
This is fantastic fun day out for women of all ages, shapes, sizes and fitness levels. Women have been participating in this event on behalf of our association for many years now, and have raised thousands of Euro for the services we provide. We would encourage all women to take part in this great day to help raise awareness and much needed funds for our organisation.
The Parkinson’s Association receive no Government funding and we are heavily dependent on donations and fund raising events such as the Flora Women’s Mini Marathon. All funds raised are used to fund our services including our Freephone Helpline which was used by almost 1,000 people last year. This is an essential service to our patients, especially those who have been newly diagnosed, and is available from 9am-9pm Monday – Friday. Recently through the efforts of so many donators and fundraisers we have been in a position to provide a call back service from a Parkinson’s Nurse, which greatly adds to our services to patients and their families.
We can supply a free marathon pack of tee-shirt and sponsorship cards to all our participants and we also welcome meeting everyone in the Russell Court Hotel, Harcourt Street, for refreshments after the race. This is our way of saying thank you to all who have participated on our behalf. As this event is our major fundraiser each year we are appealing for everyone to take part in what is truly a great fun day out.
You can contact our Freephone helpline 1800 359359 or email us; info@parkinsons.ie to get your marathon pack. We can also help you to set up an online fundraising page through MyCharity.ie, which is an excellent way to raise funds.
