Patient Meeting – Dublin

Wynns Hotel, Lower Abbey Street, Dublin

Friday 28th of October @ 2pm

ADMISSION FREE

Dr. Jon Stamford

Jon Stamford spent more than 20 years as an academic neuroscientist, with a particular interest in Parkinson’s. Jon’s research interest in PD was given a dramatic if unwelcome boost in 2006 when he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s at the age of 49. He is the Scientific and Advocate Communication Coordinator at the Cure Parkinson's Trust and Honorary Reader in Psychology at the University of Leicester. Never one to miss an opportunity, Jon now writes ‘Slice of Life’, a humorous weekly blog about his life with Parkinson’s. Jon will be our opening speaker and his knowledge of Parkinson’s is both personal and inspirational.

Margaret Mullarney

Margaret Mullarney, after seven years with Parkinson’s, is fitter than she was before diagnosis. She has recently completed a half marathon in Limerick, and plans on running in the Dublin City Marathon in October. A mag was a lawyer, but now describes herself as an advocate – a similar occupation! However this role, of inspiring, of instilling hope into the hearts and minds of those who have been fortunate enough to have met her or heard her speak, is unpaid, and with her 24/7. Margaret is also travelling to Branches throughout Ireland to meet people with Parkinson's and their families and she addresses these meetings to pass on her inspirational message. She also has a very successful blog that has featured in the top forty blogs for Parkinson's Awareness Week 2010.

Patricia O’Connor (Yoga Therapy Ireland)

Patricia O’Connor has been working with Parkinson’s patients for many years and currently runs classes for the Kildare/East Midlands Branch of our Association. Patricia has also written for our Parkinsons.ie magazine and is well respected within the association and her profession for her tireless work with people with disabilities. She will demonstrate some of the simple stretching exercises that can help to alleviate some of the stiffness and aches associated with Parkinson’s.
